The result of the study reveals that there are nine genres found. They are: spoof (14.03%), report (45.61%), news item (1.76%), description (10.53%), anecdote (1.76%), analytical exposition (1.76%), hortatory exposition (1.76%), explanation (14.03%) and discussion (3.50%). The rest of the texts (5.26%), are the texts with no genre and the one with more than one genre. Most texts (94.72%) have good generic structure; all of the obligatory elements are present, therefore, most of them have achieved their social functions. Every element of the generic structure has different function which support the text to achieved their social functions based on the genres they are included. Based on the 2004 English Curriculum, there are four genres suggested for the twelfth year; narrative, explanation, discussion and review. However, there are only two genres available, explanation and discussion, which are taken from 17.5% of all texts available.
Three of the nine genres, spoof, report and news item, are intended for the tenth year, and four of them, descriptive, anecdote, analytical exposition and hortatory exposition, are intended for the eleventh year. It means that, 61.40% of the texts are intended for the tenth year and 15.81% are intended for the eleventh year.
In summary, the texts in this textbook do not suit with the suggested genres of 2004 English Curriculum. Therefore, it is important for the teachers to provide the missing genres, narrative and review.
