ABSTRACT
This paper is entitled A Brief Study of Affixes Used In The Jakarta Post Newspaper. The writer of this paper discusses about the affixes. English affixes are prefixes and suffixes. The writer takes 2 different articles in the newspaper, they are Trump backs away from commitment Palestinian state and Oops, our bad: ‘Moonlight’ really won in major mess-up. There are 47 sentences used by the journalists to write those articles. In those 47 sentences, can be found 8 prefixes (inter-, pro-, im-, en-, ir-, co-, dis-, re-) and 20 suffixes (–s/-es, -ment, -an, -ing, - able/-ible, -ed, -ion, -ly, -ance, -er, -ive, -est, -or, -ous, -ic, -al, -t, -hood, -ish and – ty/-ity). The writer analyzed the data to know the affixes deal with (a)form, (b)distribution, (c)function and (d)meaning. The method used in this paper was library research. The writer does hope that this paper can give a valuable information about prefixes and suffixes.
